Abstract
Welcome to the new Verba Vitae essay series “Talking About Life in the Public Square—A Review of Podcasts.” The Verba Vitae Journal seeks to inform and transform the conversation about life and its significance through rigorous, thoughtful, academic theological research. It must be acknowledged, however, that that conversation is already occurring, so it is important that we understand and address what is being discussed in the public square. The VVJ is doing that already through our articles and book review series, but that is only a sampling of what is being discussed publicly. But this discussion is not confined merely to the pages of academic publications. And as this discussion enters the public square, the implications for how society thinks about life and its significance are far and wide. This new essay series seeks to engage with the conversation about life in the public square by exploring the medium of podcast. Longform podcasts allow for series conversation between experts and the public that is both timely and immediately accessible. To engage with these conversations, coming issues of VVJ will include essays exploring and critiquing the conversations about that issues theme, and will provide references to VVJ articles that will help the reader more seriously and critically engage in these conversation about life in the public square.
